Our Next Concert

Saturday November 18 2023

Fun and Fireworks  - Three Baroque Crackers

At St Mildred's Church, Bingham Road, CR0 7EB

At our next concert we will be singing the wonderful Ode to St Cecilia, by the pioneering English Baroque composer Henry Purcell (image left),  first performed in 1692.  It is a delightful choral work in honour of Saint Cecilia, patron saint of musicians.   The text was written by Nicholas Brady and based in turn on a poem by John Dryden.  It is a complex piece with airs that use a variety of dance forms.   Our second choral piece will be Handel's celebrated Dixit Dominus, one of the most intricate and rewarding pieces in the choral canon.  That will be complemented with Handel's Music for the Royal Fireworks, which helped inspire the name of our concert.   Tickets will cost £20 (£5 for children).  Details of how to book will appear here soon.
