Music Director

Our music director, David Gibson, is an inspirational leader who has guided the choir to new standards of excellence.  He began his musical training as a chorister at Chichester Cathedral where he was the original treble soloist in Leonard Bernstein's Chichester Psalms. He studied music at the Universities of London and Sussex and since then has worked extensively as a pianist, organist and conductor.

He has worked with many of the UK’s top orchestras including the Philharmonia, Bournemouth Symphony Orchestra, London Mozart Players and the New London Sinfonia, which he founded in 1987. David's love of opera is reflected in his extensive work with Travelling Opera, European Chamber Opera, Opera Holland Park and the D’Oyly Carte Company, where he was musical director for their highly successful West End production of The Pirates of Penzance.

David is a dynamic director, who enthuses the choir with his interpretation of music and his humour. We work hard during rehearsals,  bringing both fulfilment and enjoyment.  At the end of the evening we feel we have learned a great deal as well as having had a good time.

David is also Music Director of the Southampton Philharmonic Society, the Occam Singers and Basingstoke Choral Society, with whom our choir enjoys an annual  collaborative concert.
